Town Council
The Knightstown Town Council has five members who make important decisions for the town. They create rules, hire town workers, decide their pay, and set the town’s budget. They also set the rates for water, wastewater, and electric services.
Council members must live in Knightstown and are elected by the people of the town. Elections are held in a way that two council seats are filled one year, and the other three seats are filled two years later. Each council member serves for four years, starting on January 1 after they are elected. The town’s clerk-treasurer also helps the council and can vote if there’s a tie.
Every year, the council chooses one member to be the president and another to be the vice president. The president acts as the town’s leader, following state laws.
