Overview
Code Enforcement officials work to keep the Town of Knightstown safe, healthy, and a good place to live. They prevent, detect, and investigate violations of the town’s municipal code and zoning rules. To do this, they must understand the laws and regulations set by the town, county, and state leaders. Code Enforcement Officers are also responsible for keeping detailed records of every violation they handle.
Concerns from Knightstown residents and town agencies about housing, buildings, land use, zoning, businesses, or other properties are investigated and resolved by following procedures based on town, county, and state rules.
The Knightstown Code Enforcement office works proactively with residents and town and county departments to resolve issues as quickly and easily as possible. We aim to use common sense and courtesy throughout the process. If violations on a property are not resolved, the town has the authority to impose administrative fines following the guidelines set by state and town codes.
The Town of Knightstown and its Code Enforcement team understand that unfortunate situations can happen through no fault of a property owner or tenant. Floods, fires, storms, vandalism, and loss of a loved one are some reasons why properties might fall into disrepair and violate codes. In such cases, Code Enforcement will make every effort to work with residents and property owners. However, when violations result from deliberate neglect, inaction, unlawful activity, or public nuisances that affect neighbors’ property rights, the town must take action to resolve the issue.
If you notice a situation that needs attention, please contact us.
